Vocational Preparation Year (BVJ/BVJ-S)

The vocational preparation year (Berufsvorbereitungsjahr = BVJ) targets individuals who are still under a full-time school mandate and who still want to prepare for a career. In conjunction with the vocational preparation year (BVJ) it is possible to acquire a general high school equivalency diploma. The vocational preparation year (BVJ) is facilitated at vocational schools.

The linguistic vocational preparation year (Berufsvorbereitungsjahr – Sprache = BVJ-S) may be attended prior to the vocational preparation year (BVJ). The purpose of the linguistic vocational preparation year (BVJ-S) is to accommodate linguistic and professional support needs. This will make the transition to the vocational preparation year (BVJ) easier. The linguistic vocational preparation year (BVJ-S) will also be hosted at a vocational school.

Thuringia offers additional programs for the acquisition of a scholastic degree or basic professional training through its State Program for Education (Landesprogramm Start Bildung), the Department of Labor Agencies (Agenturen für Arbeit) or the job centers or through special projects.
